The Status of the EU Network of Excellence for Hydrogen Safety "HySafe"

Thomas Jordan, HySafe Coordination Office

HySafe addresses portable, stationary and transport applications of hydrogen and covers hazards associated with release and dispersion of hydrogen and with hydrogen fires and explosions of pre-mixed systems. The network investigates mitigation techniques, comparative risk, and standardization and legal requirements. The goal of this project is to integrate the fragmented expertise in the field of hydrogen safety. The objectives are to contribute to developing common understanding and approaches for addressing hydrogen safety issues, to further harmonized tools for safety and risk assessment, to gather and structure knowledge and integrate EU research activities on hydrogen safety, and to promote public acceptance of hydrogen.

In the presentation the current state of all activities of the network are described. The focus lies on the internal projects "InsHyde" and "HyTunnel" and on other RCS relevant projects linked to or even initiated by HySafe. The future directions also concerning the foundation of a European Institute for Hydrogen Safety are discussed.
