Architectures of fuel cell system integration,Control strategies and comparison of different fuel cell drive trains illustrated by a fuel cell motorbike

Joerg Weigl, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

This study explores the comparison of the different Fuel Cell Drive train architecture and their Control strategies. The work is based on the different drive train schemas, their control strategies and the system effort. From direct PEM Fuel Cell drive trains to multiple hybridised fuel cell drive train system with ultra capacitors and batteries. The architectures are proved too far extends by lab and real world experiments. The results reveal that the different architectures will be compared by overall efficiency (from Tank to wheel) and System Performance. A good Fuel Cell drive train Architecture also increases reliability and lifetime of the components. These are visible benefits for the end users which help bring this technology to the market. Only clean technology on the market brings benefits to environment. The result of the work is not only interesting for a fuel cell motorcycle but also it is interesting for any kind of fuel cell vehicle or in general for any fluctuating load.
